Tyler Public Library held the third of five beginner guitar lessons on Thursday, offered in partnership with Guitar Center in Tyler.

The five-part course is geared toward teaching basic songs to beginners on acoustic guitar. Teacher Brandon McManus, an employee of Guitar Center, said he hopes students will continue their lessons in the store.

McManus was approached earlier this year by a library staffer looking for someone to give the lessons.

The course runs off a curriculum developed by Guitar Center and music publisher Hall Leonard.

Julie James said she's never learned anything about playing guitar but hopes to leave the course with some knowledge of the instrument.

"I've always wanted to learn guitar, just my whole life," James said. "I get the library newsletters and figured this was my chance."

While McManus said new students can technically join for the last two sessions on June 21 and June 28, they may feel lost since the course is progressive over the five lessons.
