MINERSVILLE, Beaver County — One man is dead and another under arrest following a fatal shooting in Beaver County on Sunday.
Mike Allen Miller, 25, of Minersville, was arrested and booked into the Beaver County Jail. He was charged Monday in 5th District Court with murder, a first-degree felony. According to charging documents, the death was the result of domestic violence-related incident.
Deputies were called just before 2:30 a.m. to 388 W. 100 South in Minersville on a report of a 38-year-old man who had been shot in the chest. They arrived to find the injured victim in the garage.
"The male was semi-responsive and had told several medical staff that he did not shoot himself," according to a police booking affidavit.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, died shortly after arriving at a local hospital. Investigators learned from others in the house that the victim had been arguing with Miller earlier in the day, according to the affidavit. About 7:45 a.m., Miller was spotted by deputies and questioned.
Miller claimed the shooting was in self-defense, "noting that he thought he was protecting other residents in the home. Miller admitted that he did not initially feel any remorse for his actions," the affidavit states.
Miller told deputies the victim was closing a door when he was shot, according to the affidavit, and that Miller "was not going to allow the male victim to go into his own residence. After interviewing Miller, it was found that there was no immediate threat of serious bodily injury or death involving this incident.
"Miller admitted that there were options that he could have used other than deadly force against the male victim."
