CT Lottery, Powerball, Team Up For 'First Millionaire' Promotion

ROCKY HILL, CT — Connecticut Lottery and Powerball officials on Friday unveiled the first Powerball Millionaire of the Year second-chance prize promotion in which Powerball players in Connecticut could win a trip to celebrate New Year's Eve in Times Square along with a chance to win an additional $1 million.

The drawing for the game will take place on Jan. 1, 2020, just after midnight, during ABC’s live broadcast of "Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest,"

"The Connecticut Lottery is excited to partner with Powerball to give our players a chance to win a fun-filled VIP trip to New York City, plus a chance to be the first Powerball millionaire of the year," said CT Lottery President and CEO Greg Smith. "I really hope a Connecticut winner brings home the $1 million prize."

Connecticut will send 10 winners and their guests to New York City this New Year's Eve to attend a Powerball party in Times Square. Each trip prize winner will also be eligible to win an additional $1 million.

To enter, players must purchase five Powerball games (with the Power Play) on a single ticket (a $15 purchase) from Aug 18 at 5 a.m. through Sept. 14, at 9:59:59 p.m. Original, non-winning tickets can then be mailed-in for a chance to win one of 10 Powerball New Year's Rockin' Eve VIP Experiences.

The First Powerball Millionaire of the Year campaigns are set to occur in 25 participating jurisdictions.

More than 300 winners from those jurisdictions will head to New York City in late December for a trip that includes the Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall and a holiday cruise on the Hudson River with dinner and entertainment. Also included are round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and a New Year's Eve gala at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, featuring live entertainment and prime viewing of the Times Square ball drop.

One trip winner will be randomly drawn to win $1 million.
