Fatal pedestrian crash under investigation in Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. — The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal car crash, involving a pedestrian that occurred Wednesday evening in Rehoboth Beach.

According to police, just after 8:00 PM, a 2019 GMC Terrain was traveling northbound on Coastal Highway, north of Munchy Branch Road. Police say the pedestrian was crossing the highway, heading east and for unknown reasons, the pedestrian stepped off the median and into the path of the SUV. The The driver was unable to see the pedestrian at the time and hit them.

Police say the driver of the GMC, a 26-year-old Rehoboth Beach woman, was not injured and remained on the scene of the crash.

The pedestrian, a 68-year-old Rehoboth Beach woman, was not using a light and also wearing dark clothing. She was taken to Beebe Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her identity is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.
