MA Coronavirus Stats: How Vaccinated Is Your Community?

Twenty Massachusetts cities and towns are more than 70 percent fully vaccinated — while 17 are less than half even partially vaccinated.

MASSACHUSETTS — For the second week in a row, zero Massachusetts cities and towns were designated as high risk for community spread of the coronavirus in the latest Department of Public Health town-by-town report.

There were fewer than 100 coronavirus cases per day over the last week, the lowest average on record, according to the state coronavirus dashboard.

The state reported continued declines across all coronavirus metrics Thursday, with the weekly-average positive test rate falling to 0.51 percent from 0.59 percent last week. The state reported 85 coronavirus cases, seven deaths and 31,202 vaccine doses administered Thursday.

Vaccines

The latest vaccine report shows the number of residents who are fully vaccinated has risen to 3.91 million. Another 641,548 have received one dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.

More than 55 percent of the state's population has been fully vaccinated, but some communities lagged far behind, according to state data. A handful reported fewer than 40 percent of residents are fully vaccinated, whereas over 95 percent of residents in Tisbury and Williamsburg have been fully vaccinated.

The state did not report total vaccination numbers for dozens of communities where at least one subgroup had fewer than 30 doses reported, for privacy reasons.

Of the 9.39 million doses the state has received, 87.4 percent have been administered.

Colors reflect the percentage of the population fully vaccinated, from under 50 percent, red, to over 70 percent, green. The state did not report total vaccination numbers for grey communities. Some communities are grouped together for the purpose of vaccination data.

The map does not include 1,051 of the state's cases because state health officials could not determine which communities the patients lived in.

Other Key Coronavirus Metrics

The weekly average death rate was 4 deaths per day. The average case rate and hospitalization rate also fell and there are fewer than 3,200 estimated active cases, according to the daily dashboard.

There were just 97.4 average daily new cases.

The seven-day average number of hospitalized patients was 182, down from 230 a week prior. There were 52 patients in intensive care.

The positive test rate over the last two weeks fell in 815 — or 52.7 percent — of the 351 communities in the state. The rate rose in 35 — or 10.0 percent — of the communities and held steady in the remaining 131.

There were 2.4 average daily cases per 100,000 residents of the state over that period, down from 3.9 last week.

To date, there have been 662,544 cases and 17,566 deaths statewide since the pandemic began.

The state reported 40,321 new tests Thursday, bringing the total to 23.28 million.

The data includes coronavirus cases for all Massachusetts communities, except for those with populations under 50,000 and fewer than five cases. The department said the stipulation was designed to protect the privacy of patients in those towns and cities.

The state releases town-by-town testing data every Thursday, including the number of people tested, the testing rate, the positive test rate, cases and infection rates.
