In preparation for the introduction of Value-added Tax (VAT) by 2018, KPMG in Bahrain today announced the expansion of its tax practice with the appointment of Philippe Norre to lead the firm’s indirect tax practice (i.e. VAT, customs, and selective tax) in Bahrain.  Bringing 25 years’ experience in transactional taxes and VAT, Phillipe’s appointment is a valuable addition to the local business community.

Having held senior positions in other Big Four firms throughout his career, Phillipe has a track record in providing VAT and indirect tax consultancy to key organizations across all industries. Most importantly, he has deep understanding of Bahrain and the region’s business environment. He has advised several GCC government ministries on the development and implementation of their VAT laws and tax authority infrastructure. He has also advised companies and authorities on VAT and indirect taxes in Australia, India, Hungary and Armenia. This is in addition to serving as the personal advisor to the EU Commissioner for taxation.

Commenting on his appointment, Philippe said, "I am excited to join KPMG in Bahrain and looking forward to working with businesses to get them ready for the introduction of VAT. This is a period of seminal transformation across the Gulf region. VAT and other indirect taxes are a fundamental challenge for businesses and KPMG is ready to offer tailored insights to support companies through these changes and beyond."
