Postcard from Mound City by Dan Martin, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, dmartin@post-dispatch.com - Sheltering-In-Place Questions - Week #22 1. The Westmoreland Place gun-wielding couple, the McCloskeys, are scheduled to appear at next week's GOP convention. Presumably, they will be cheered by NRA members tuning in. BUT WHY? They violated every rule a Missouri 12-year-old learns in hunter safety class, including: 1. Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction. And 2. Never touch the trigger until you are ready to shoot. (Cartoon shows a boy hunter, wearing an orange hunting cap and vest, holding his hunting rifle properly.) 2. St. Louis was smart to change the name of Kennard Classical Academy school, so as not to honor a Confederate officer. BUT how do we still explain the Veiled Prophet to an out-of-towner? (Ball and parade founded by a Confederate Cavalry colonel.) (Illustration of:) The first VP in 1878. Honest. 3. COVID-19 hygiene tip for you: Q: How do you know when it's time to shower, shave and change clothes? A. When you simply cannot remember the last time you did those things. (Cartoon shows an unkempt, wild-haired man looking at a MAY calendar while drinking a cup of coffee.) > Archiving note: Spelling of gun-weilding in cartoon was changed to gun-wielding in description.
