4. Cookery class at The Abinger Cookery School

In what was once a disused pub in the heart of the Surrey Hills, The Abinger Cookery School was founded by a small team of culinary enthusiasts with a wealth of experience and a passion for all things foodie.

They run fun and practical cookery classes including day courses on fish, Thai cuisine, tapas, Italian food, pasta making and pastry skills.

7. Picnic at Painshill Park

The magnificent award-winning 18th century landscape garden based in Cobham is perfect for all ages and makes a great day out.

Experience the pleasure gardens and submerge yourself into the history of the landscape.

8. Meet wildlife at Birdworld

If you are a family of animal lovers, this is the place for you.

There are so many fantastic friends to meet at Birdworld.

The farm is home to everything fluffy and furry from guinea pigs and rabbits to goats, sheep and even reindeer.

And in the aquarium there are crocodiles, piranha and seahorses as well as lots of unusual marine species.

The stars of the attraction are of course the birds including the magnificent penguins.

You will find two species and feeding takes place twice a day.

9. Ride rollercoasters at Thorpe Park

Experience more than 30 rides, family attractions and unique events on a day trip at one of the UK's most popular theme parks.

Thorpe Park is home to Stealth, the UK's fastest rollercoaster, launching riders to 205ft at 80mph in just 2.5 seconds.

It is also the destination of The Swarm, the UK's only winged coaster, and Saw - The Ride, the world's first horror themed roller coaster featuring a 100ft "beyond-vertical" drop.

10. Go back in time at Arundel Castle

11. Sunbathe at Frensham Ponds

Frensham Great Pond is one of two ponds built in the Middle Ages to provide fish for the Bishop of Winchester’s estate.

It’s the perfect place to picnic with its very own sandy beach perfect for paddling and sunbathing when the weather is good.

The landscape is beautiful and vast with the Great Pond nestled amongst the heathland.

There are various walking trails with far reaching views across Frensham Common.

12. Gin tour at Silent Pool Distillery

Located deep in the Surrey Hills, Silent Pool Distillers formulates, distills and bottles its award-winning gin and liqueurs all under one roof in Albury.

Tours of the distillery are run regularly to give customers an opportunity to learn how the handcrafted spirit is produced, plus sample Silent Pool Gin and its gin-based fruit cordials.

13. Wine tour at Denbies Wine Estate

You can spend the whole day at this beautiful vineyard set in the Surrey Hills.

There's a choice of an indoor or outdoor wine tour where you can learn about the award-winning wine and a gift shop to purchase bottles.

The Gallery Restaurant is located on the third floor overlooking the 265-acre vineyard.

It offers spectacular views over Box Hill and the North Downs.

There is also seven miles of public footpath which trail throughout the vineyard if you fancy walking off your lunch afterwards.

14. Wander around Polesden Lacey

This country retreat has glorious views across the rolling Surrey Hills and acres of countryside to explore.

It was home to the famous Edwardian hostess Mrs Greville, who entertained royalty and the celebrities of her time.

The gardens offer something for every season, including climbing roses which are at their best in June, a beautiful herbaceous border and a winter garden bursting with yellow aconites.

15. Take a Turks boat trip

A Thames river boat cruise is a splendid way to explore Richmond, Kingston and Hampton, especially when the weather is good.

You can hire a private boat for your party or all jump on to one of the main boats sailing down the Thames throughout the day.

From Turk’s Pier at Hampton Court, the journey time to Kingston is 35 minutes and to Richmond one hour 45 minutes.

There are various river side restaurants at all departing spots, plus the odd ice cream van or two.

16. Walk up Box Hill

Box Hill is the perfect place to discover a family walk and explore the Surrey Hills.

Forming part of the North Downs, Box Hill has views across the surrounding countryside.

It's home to lots of wildlife and plants too, including the Adonis blue butterfly and bee orchid.

There are lots of walks over the hill, which you can download from the National Trust website.

17. See the tower at Leith Hill

Leith Hill is set within the Surrey Hills and from the tower rising majestically above the surrounding hills you can see sweeping views towards London in the north and the English Channel in the south.

The top of the tower is the highest point in South-East England.

Leith Hill has been popular with visitors since the Victorian times and you can enjoy similar pastimes today but with a modern twist; visit the tower and peer through a telescope, or follow a self-guided trails through ancient woods, the scented Rhododendron Wood or across open heathland.

18. Be dazzled at Mercedes Benz World

The site offers thrilling driving experiences for all ages plus three floors of attractions and exhibits which are open to the public for free.

Next door is Brooklands Hotel, home to the award-winning 1907 Restaurant, Bar and Grill which is named after the year the world famous Brooklands racetrack opened, and draws inspiration from the 1920s and 30s - a period of glamour, innovation, and the golden age of racing.

19. Relax at Winkworth Arboretum

Created in the early 20th century by Dr Wilfrid Fox, this hillside arboretum has now been maintained by the National Trust for 60 years and has built up an internationally significant collection of more than 1,000 different species of shrubs and trees, many of them rare.

Visit any time of year for a stroll through the personal plant collection of one man, who was passionate about plants.

The Collection and setting are too unique to ever disappoint.

In the summer it is an ideal place for family days out and picnics, and winter brings the opportunity for a peaceful walk among the hollies and snowdrops.

20. Learn at Rural Life Centre

There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about the museum.

Highlights include an 18th century Granary which was rescued from Borelli Yard in Farnham during an archaeological excavation in 1985, when development meant it would otherwise be demolished.

There is also a chapel, a village hall, shepherd's hut and children's playground.

The Old Kiln Café offers a seasonal family-friendly menu for light lunches and Sunday roasts.

Plus, there are lots of benches and picnic tables located around the museum site.

21. Coffee and cake at Hatchlands Park

Hatchlands Park was built in the 1750s for naval hero Admiral Edward Boscawen and his wife Fanny. Since then it has housed wealthy families, a finishing school for girls and even a printing press.

Today you can visit the parkland or stop for coffee in the Kitchen Café all year round.

You can also see inside our house on four afternoons a week, between April and October.

Take the time to wander through 400 acres of rolling parkland and woodland, one of the largest country estates in the area and full of year round seasonal colour.
