According to the Alexandria Police Department, more than 75 vehicle burglaries happened in the first nine days of December.

While there isn't a specific trend following the burglaries, the majority of the crimes are happening in apartment complexes and neighborhoods.

In most scenarios, more than one vehicle in the facility sites are being targeted.

According to APD, some areas like Beau Terre Apartments, on Twin Bridges Road, have seen an increase of this crime, with 12 burglaries happening in the complex early Monday morning.

APD’s Chief Jerrod King said spikes of crime like this happen in cities from time to time.

"We're upset about it, and we're going to do the best we can to find these individuals, and identify them,” Chief King said. “Just last night, we had a special burglary patrol out, and they were able to make an arrest, of an individual that was attempting to break into a vehicle in an apartment complex, because of that burglary patrol, we were able to arrest them."

On Wednesday night, we will take a more in-depth look into this issue, and hear from others, including a victim, and the Alexandria Police Officers Association, who said having 26 officers down isn't helping the city.
