Girls Lacrosse: Gig Harbor Cruises Past Puyallup

Led by Gig Harbor's Mia Henderson, the team defeated Puyallup in a 10-6 win on Thursday, March 21.

SUMNER - Mia Henderson scored a game-high four goals as Gig Harbor earned its second straight girls high school lacrosse victory in a 10-6 win over Puyallup, Thursday at Sunset Stadium in Sumner.

Hannah Ellestad, Haleigh Vergera and Haley Didway each contributed two goals for Gig Harbor in the win.

Puyallup trailed 9-3 at halftime and although goalkeeper Grace Bartels only allowed one goal in the second half, Gig Harbor’s lead was too great to overcome.

Puyallup was led offensively by Elisabeth Abbott who scored twice on the day. Amelia Heckert, Megan McAllister and Olivia Bean each scored once.

The Gig Harbor team, comprised of players from Gig Harbor and Peninsula High Schools, is competing in its first year as a varsity team.

Gig Harbor (2-0-0) next faces Stadium (1-2-0) in a 6 p.m. matchup, Wednesday, March 27 at Mason Middle School. Puyallup (2-2-0) next faces Tahoma (1-1-0) in a 5:30 p.m. matchup, Tuesday, March 26 at Tahoma High School.
