1 killed, 1 hospitalized after small plane crash in Stokes County
Stokes County Communications confirms a plane crash Tuesday evening.
We've learned one person was killed. A second person onboard was airlifted to the hospital.
The crash happened in the area off Volunteer Rd. in Pinnacle.
In a statement sent into the WXII12 newsroom, the Federal Aviation Administration says a single-engine Beechcraft A23 crashed in a field near 1170 Almas Lane in Pinnacle Tuesday at 5:21 p.m.
The FAA, along with the National Transportation Safety Board, will investigate.
The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, as well as other emergency crews responded to that scene.
Stokes Emergency Services told WXII one person died on scene and another person was taken by helicopter to a local hospital and is in serious but stable condition.
Stokes County Emergency Services Director Brandon Gentry said when the plane was located it was not on fire. He spoke to WXII about what he expects when emergency crews arrive on scene to a crash like this
“Location how can we access it getting emergency vehicles in is there any type of fire anything like that. Right here was very fortunate easy access lot of contacts have to be made with the FAA and the NTSB,” Brandon Gentry, the Director of Stokes County Emergency Services.
The FAA said they along with the NTSB are investigating the crash.
