MOUNT ZION -- Hazel Marie Tackaberry Suits, 98, died October 10, 2019 in St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a resident of Heritage Health in Mt. Zion, Illinois.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 14, at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church (720 West Main St., Mt. Zion, IL). Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral service at the church. Pastor Tracy Smith will be officiating. She will be buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield, IL following the funeral. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home and Family Service, Carmi, IL and/or First Baptist Church of Mt. Zion, IL. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of arrangements. Hazel was born in Big Clifty, Kentucky on February 8, 1921, the daughter of Archie and Ida Tackaberry. She graduated from Litchfield High School. Hazel married Christopher Suits on March 1, 1941 in Litchfield. He preceded her in death on Feb 4, 2004.
She is survived by her sons: Dewey (Glenda) Suits of Decatur, IL, Jim (Rita) Suits of Aurora, Colorado, and Tom (Lynn) Suits of Galesburg, IL; daughters: Christine (Norm) Skeeters of Springfield, IL and Mary Ann Allum of Bowling Green, Missouri. She leaves 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; brothers Wilbur Tackaberry of Litchfield, IL, Jim Tackaberry of Decatur, IL and sister Shirley Hughes of Decatur, IL.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Zion and a member of DAV in Decatur.
