Lollapalooza 2019: Street Closures, Weather And Musical Acts

Find out everything you need to know before you go to, or drive near, the festival around Chicago's Grant Park.

CHICAGO, IL — Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino and the Strokes are just three of the headliners at this year's Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago. This summer's four-day, outdoor concert event also features Twenty One Pilots, Tame Impala, Flume, the Chainsmokers and J. Balvin.

More than 180 musical acts will play on eight stages between Thursday, Aug. 1, and Sunday, Aug. 4, in Grant Park.

Lollapalooza 2019: The Basics

When: Thursday, Aug. 1, through Sunday, Aug. 4

Where: Grant Park, Chicago

The Weather

Here's what the forecast looks like for Chicago during the music festival, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 79. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Friday: Sunny, with a high near 82. Light east wind becoming northeast 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 85.
  • Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 84.

The Road Closures, Getting There

Metra is offering a modified schedule for the festival to make it easier for attendees to get there. See the Metra service schedule.

From Metra: "Alcohol is prohibited after 7PM on Thursday and Friday as well as all day on Saturday and Sunday. Also, a bicycle warning date will be in effect from Thursday to Sunday; There is an increased likelihood that bicycles and e-scooters cannot be accommodated due to anticipated crowds."

Road Closures

Road closures began July 29 and will run to Aug. 9 in some places. Here's a list of closures:

Columbus Drive: closed from Monroe Street to Roosevelt Road beginning July 29

  • Lake Shore Drive or State Street can be used as alternate routes around the crowds

Balbo Drive: closed from Michigan Avenue to Lake Shore Drive

  • closed from Columbus Drive to Lake Shore Drive through Friday, Aug. 9

Jackson Boulevard: closed from Michigan Avenue to Lake Shore Drive

  • will reopen from Columbus Drive to Lake Shore Drive on Thursday, Aug. 8, for morning rush hour, will have intermittent closures on Aug. 8 and 9 for equipment load-out

Ida B. Wells Drive: including the Circle, closed from Michigan Avenue to Columbus Drive

ADA drop-off is at the eastbound curb lane of Monroe Street from Michigan Avenue to Columbus Drive.
