Typhoon Texas, a water park under construction next to Katy Mills Mall, is on schedule to open for Memorial Day weekend.

The grand opening is set for May 28 at the 45-acre park, 555 Katy Fort Bend Road, said Terry Hlavinka, a partner on the project with Keith Dalton and Ray Delaughter.

"About 75 percent of the rides are erected, so you can easily see them from the (Interstate 10) freeway," Hlavinka said Wednesday. "There's been a lot of excitement in the last two to three weeks."
