Luzerne Man Hijacks, Crashes BATA Bus in Kingsley

A 24-year-old Luzerne man has been arrested after Michigan State Police say he hijacked a Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) bus at a bus stop in the Northland Food Grocery Store parking lot in Kingsley Tuesday morning.

According to police, the man boarded the BATA bus and attempted to take the fire extinguisher out of its holder. The bus driver radioed for help and exited the bus.

Police say the man the stole the bus and attempted to turn east bound on M-113 and was struck by a west bound passenger car driven by a Manton woman.

There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash. The Manton woman suffered minor injuries and is seeking her own medial treatment.

The suspect was uninjured and is lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail.
