Bahrain is all set to host the 17th Asian Men’s Handball Championship on January 15-28. The event also serves as qualifier for the 2017 Men’s Handball World Championship in France.

The UAE was originally set to organize this event, but a late withdrawal decision gave Bahrain the green light to embrace the continental challenge.

Bahrain hosted the 16th edition in January 2014, when the local team lost the final against Qatar 27:26. Bahrain’s successful organisation was lauded by Asian Handball Federation officials. Qatar are already qualified for France 2017 as World vice-champions. Four more teams will find the place in the global tournament to be held in January 2017.

Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) Abdulrahman Askar visited the Bahrain Handball Association premises where he met BHA president Ali Isa Eshaqi and members of the board association who made a presentation on their preparations for this two-week tournament.

Preparations include arrangements to set up the sports gym that will host the matches, as well as other procedures to finalise the broadcasting of the opening ceremony, as well as the spectators entry and exit, media coverage and security.
Eshaqi extended his appreciation to the BOC, headed by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, for its support to the association in setting up the stage for this major continental competition, and his confidence for Bahrain to have a very successful event.
