The Muhammad Bin Hamad Al Thani Centre for Muslim Contribution to Civilisation (CMCC) at the College of Islamic Studies (CIS), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), held a webinar highlighting Qatar’s role in disseminating a culture of knowledge beneficial to the Muslim world and the world at large.
The webinar was chaired by Prof Aisha Yousef al-Mannai, director of the centre.
The event, which took place on October 6, formed part of a collaborative initiative by the Ministry of Culture and Sports (MCS) with other local and international entities to celebrate Doha being named “Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021”.
Discussions highlighted how the cultural and academic excellence achieved by Qatar over the years has elevated Doha to become one of the most important cultural cities in the Muslim world.
The webinar’s panel featured Qatar University Press head of acquisitions Dr Okasha El Daly, general director of Etizan Training Centre and MCS consultant Dr Haya al-Moadhadi, and Maryam al-Hammadi, director-general of the Qatari Forum for Authors and consultant at the MCS.
Their presentations reflected on milestones in Qatar’s journey and contributions in the areas of literature, arts, culture and sports.
Speaking after the webinar, Prof al-Mannai said: “Not only has this dialogue demonstrated the HBKU’s alignment with Qatar’s development vision to advance a sustainable knowledge economy, but it also puts the CIS at the forefront of debates shaping the wider Islamic world.”
“The HBKU’s diverse alumni community of scholars, scientists, writers and artists are contributing to the positive cultural development of their societies, enabling Qatar to extend its academic and research innovation excellence in the region and further afield,” she said. “The CIS will continue its efforts as a leading higher education institute supporting Qatar in its initiatives to boost the cultural and social development of Muslims across the region and globe.”
The CIS’s CMCC regularly hosts public lectures and conferences to promote a deeper understanding of the various aspects of Islam among the wider community.
