Filmmaker and teacher E’Jaaz Mason is using unconventional methods to teach a lesson in empathy.For the last four years, Mason has worked as film and digital media teacher at New Orleans Science and Math School. It’s where he learned firsthand the disconnect that can exist between students and teachers.On his first day at the school, a student took issue with him."He was going off and yelling at me and saying some words I won't repeat on TV," Mason said.Mason learned that empathy is key to healthy relationships between teachers and students. A few years later, "Empathy" became the name of a short film produced by his students.
