Starfield Will A Undergo Major Engine Rewrite For Next-Gen Consoles

Xbox boss Phil Spencer and Bethesda’s Todd Howard and Pete Hines got together to discuss X Box’s Bethesda acquisition on Larry Hyrb’s podcast. While they didn’t reveal much about what the partnership would mean, they did reveal a bit about Starfield.

Upon being asked about the game, Howard revealed that it will be going through a “major engine rewrite” in order to leverage the capabilities of next-gen consoles. “The people all know me, I like to wait as long as possible to show stuff so uh, we’re closer to show stuff than we were at the beginning of the conversation,” joked Howard.

Despite its acquisition by Microsoft, Bethesda will apparently run somewhat independently of Xbox, according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer. According to CNET, Bethesda will largely be allowed to do its own thing, while adopting some of Xbox Studios' practices. These practices include releasing its games on to Xbox Game Pass and being available to stream on xCloud.
