SOLANO COUNTY, CA — In addition to extending the county's shelter-at-home order through April 30, Solano County Public Health officials are recommending residents cover their nose and mouth with cloth when leaving home for essential errands such as doctor appointments, grocery shopping or pharmacy visits.

The recommendation for cloth face coverings does not replace social distancing recommendations, county health officials said Friday. Maintaining 6 feet of physical distance, as well as frequently washing one's hands, remain the most important ways to slow the spread of the virus, county officials said.

Under the public health order, residents are directed to stay at home except to get food, care for a relative or friend, get necessary health care, or engage in essential activities and work.

The county's extended health order is in line with California Gov. Gavin Newsom's order, and works to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease — COVID-19 — in the community, according to Solano Public Health.

Since the coronavirus outbreak started, there have been 73 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Solano County, 12 of which were reported Friday, according to Solano County's online COVID-19 dashboard.
