To the staff at Glen Haven Manor: Dad couldn't ask, but you gave. Thank you for the care and comfort. Dad started his career with the Royal Bank in New Glasgow, then moved to Dartmouth before transferring to a Royal branch in Montreal. There he met and married the love of his life. Subsequent moves with an ever-expanding family were to Nassau, Toronto, Jamaica, back to Montreal and then closer to home in Halifax. No matter where the branch was, summer and Christmas vacations were always on Maple Avenue in New Glasgow with cousins, aunts, uncles and Nana. Dad left the bank to move home to New Glasgow to manage J.J. MacKay Canada Ltd. He served on the board of the Aberdeen Hospital, was Official Agent for Provincial Elections and served where he was needed for Trinity United Church, most visibly running the sound board and faithfully taping every service on cassette tapes and then delivering to shut ins. Many grieving families found comfort in receiving a recording of a funeral, hand-delivered by Al Lockhart. With family on both coasts, Mom and Dad enjoyed visits to Vancouver Island. After Mom passed away, these trips became an even more important connection for Dad, and despite the loss of Mom, Dad continued, the rock of our family. He will live on in all of us. Visitation 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday, in Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Family flowers only please. Donations, if you wish, can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Trinity United Church, 151 Temperance St., New Glasgow, NS B2H 3A9.
