Louisville awarded more than $10M in grants to fight homelessness
Several projects fighting homelessness in Louisville will be getting thousands of dollars each to help its cause.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson announced the winners of HUD's Continuum of Care grants this week.
"The grants awarded today help our partners on the ground to reduce homelessness in their communities and help our most vulnerable neighbors," Carson said.
Nearly $2.2 billion in grants will support thousands of local homeless assistance programs across the nation.
Of that, Kentucky will receive $23,141,762. Louisville alone will get $10,362,808.
That money will be spread across 36 different projects. The most money, more than $1 million, is going toward Tenant-Based Rental Assistance.
According to HUD, TBRA is a rental subsidy that can be used to help individual households afford housing costs such as rent and security deposits.

Louisville Metro has also thrown its own money behind helping the homeless despite a budget crunch. In September, Mayor Greg Fischer announced $1 million would be divided among some of the city's homeless advocacy groups.
