Louisville awarded more than $10M in grants to fight homelessness
TRIP WITH HIS FAMILY SOON DOZENS OF PROJECTS TO COMBAT HOMELESSNESS IN LOUISVILLE RECEIVE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO HELP THE CAUSE THIS WEEK THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT AWARDED MORE THAN 23 MILLION DOLLARS IN GRANTS TO KENTUCKY OF THAT ABOUT 10 MILLION WILL BE SPLIT SPLIT AMONG HOUSING AND SERVICE PROGRAMS. BY THE COALITION OF THE HOMELESS THE BASIC TARGET AREA THE WHAT MOST OF THAT IS GOING TO BE USED FOR IS PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING. SO MOVING PEOPLE OUT OF THE SHELTER’S OFF THE STREET INTO HOUSING THAT IS THAT HAS SERVICES WITH IT. SO WE CAN HELP TO MAINTAIN HOUSING FOR FOLKS. THAT’S BY AND LARGE THE BIGGEST PORTION OF THAT MONEY AT THE END OF THE MONTH THE COALITION FOR THE HOMELESS WILL CONDUCT ITS ANNUAL STREET COUNT. Several projects fighting homelessness in Louisville will be getting thousands of dollars each to help its cause.U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson announced the winners of HUD's Continuum of Care grants this week."The grants awarded today help our partners on the ground to reduce homelessness in their communities and help our most vulnerable neighbors," Carson said.Nearly $2.2 billion in grants will support thousands of local homeless assistance programs across the nation. Of that, Kentucky will receive $23,141,762. Louisville alone will get $10,362,808.That money will be spread across 36 different projects. The most money, more than $1 million, is going toward Tenant-Based Rental Assistance.According to HUD, TBRA is a rental subsidy that can be used to help individual households afford housing costs such as rent and security deposits.
