Parents Brawl At Galway Downs Soccer Tourney: No Gun, No Arrests

Claims of a "shooter" at the Albion tournament were false, but the sheriff's department did confirm there was a fight between parents.

TEMECULA, CA — Parents who got into a fight during a youth soccer tournament at Galway Downs led to brief pandemonium Sunday after one of them said he had a gun — a claim that turned out to be false.

The incident took place Sunday during the Albion Development Showcase tournament.

According to online posts, there were moments of panic. "Just saw mobs of people running towards the parking lot and the farm fields across the street in Temecula ... kids and parents hiding under cars and behind trees. Some say a fight broke out and someone brandished a 'gun,'" one person posted.

Some online commenters even claimed the man "with the gun" was caught on video.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department confirmed there was a fight between parents, but no gun. Instead, the agency said it responded to the scene within minutes and determined the "victim" in the fight said he had a gun in order to get the other parent off of him.

Deputies found there was "NO gun and no evidence of a shooting. There were no arrests made in the incident," the sheriff's department said in an emailed statement to Patch.

According to a report from 10News, the fight was incited after players from opposite teams began shoving each other during one of the finals matches. The incident escalated into a brawl, the news agency reported.
