The Indian blind cricket team arrived today

Mumbai 5th June 2015: Today early morning Indian blind cricket team arrived in Mumbai International Airport at 5 AM after a successful trip to England and Bahrain. The Indian blind cricket team proved themselves to be second to none in playing cricket by winning all the matches that were played in England and Bahrain. The visually impaired Indian cricket team visited England for a Bilateral series between 24th and 30th May.

It was a clean swipe out! Out of the 3 ODI and 3 T20 matches played India won 5 with one ODI having been abandoned due to rains! The Indian players put up spectacular demonstration of batsmanship, fielding and overall amazing team spirit! Caralisa Monteiro addressed the press conference before the team departed from Mumbai and wished the team luck.

The series was inaugurated by none other than legendary English cricketer Mike Gatting who also happens to the current Managing Director for England Cricket Board. Two World Cup winning Captain Shekar’s leadership in the ODI series saw the team defeating the English 2-0 with the 3rd ODI being abandoned. Ajay Reddy’s maiden Captainship of the T20 matches saw the Indian team winning all three matches.

English did put up a tremendous defence but could not withstand the fiery bowling and strategic batting skills of the men in blue! Ajay Reddy and Ketan Patel remained the star performers throughout the series. Sonu Golkar a first time international player from Khandwa Uttar Pradesh showed lot of promise. This is a good beginning for the upcoming T20 World Cup for the blind in 2016. Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled wishes Cricket Association for the Blind and the players all the very best! Later the team visited Bahrain for four days for friendly tournaments and increasing awareness about blind cricket. The team and the officials received overwhelmingly warm reception everywhere they went. The team played demonstration and friendly matches with different schools and local training clubs winning every match that was played. Indian community in Bahrain gave the visitors very warm reception everywhere they went. Indian High Commissioner in Bahrain was extremely happy to meet the team and interact with them.

The team visited a number of Indian schools in Bahrain where the students were thrilled to meet the world champions and had some very interesting questions for them. Very interesting matches were played at Rugby Club and Avali cricket club. The team also visited the Bahrain Saudi Blind Society and interacted with the members introducing blind cricket to them. Indian team learnt about goal ball. Overall the trip to Bahrain was very successful too in terms of reach and awareness. The warmth and friendliness was overwhelming.
