NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — One person was killed, and eight others were injured in a wrong-way, head-on crash near the Nashville International Airport, Wednesday night.

The crash happened at 8:30 p.m. on Briley Parkway at Airways Boulevard.

Metro police said 25-year-old Michael Allen Riley, of Murfreesboro, was traveling the wrong way in southbound lanes when he collided head-on with a car being driven by 45-year-old Yolanda Johnson, of La Vergne.

Riley died at the scene. Police said Johnson had seven passengers – one adult and six children – in the car. The children range in age from 3 months to 13 years.

Police said Johnson was critically injured, as were three of the children, a 3-month-old, an 8-month-old, and a 13-year-old.

At this point, investigators said it’s unclear why Riley was driving the wrong way. The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
