Orthogon Systems, a leading provider of fixed wireless solutions for reliable connectivity in difficult environments, today announced the successful implementation of a high-bandwidth wireless IP backbone that supports voice and data communications for Bahraini-based Al Hawaj Group. In partnership with Bahrain Advanced Technologies Co, a provider of data communications, telecommunication solutions and networking services in Bahrain, Al Hawaj is now able to reliably transfer more than 10,000 MB of corporate server data to their remote backup centre at Budaiya via the wireless network. Remote monitoring of security video at their backup centre and full Internet access via the wireless bridge were also key requirements for Al Hawaj Group fully enabled by Orthogon Systems.

Al Hawaj Group, one of the largest retail corporations in Bahrain, wanted to link all their remote locations to their central headquarters at Salmaniya in order to maximize the efficiency and streamline operations. One of the biggest challenges was that the Al Hawaj data backup centre, at Budaiya is a low structure surrounded by multi-level residential buildings, creating an obstructed line-of-sight. In addition, the data back up centre is 8 kilometers away from the headquarters, requiring a longer range of Non Line of sight link than the other Al Hawaj Group locations.

“As a first step, Orthogon Systems conducted a feasibility study to test the link connecting the headquarters to the data backup centre. The solution required was a high-bandwidth wireless IP backbone that was reliable and could support both voice and data communications” says Graham Owen, sales and channel director, Orthogon Systems-MEA. “With OS-Gemini and OS-Spectra we were able to meet these requirements with a cost effective solution that’s also easy to implement and manage. Working with Bahrain Advanced Technologies, we backed-up the Al Hawaj database, transferred approximately 10 GB of data daily and established VoIP
connectivity between their headquarters and offices at locations around Bahrain in just a few hours” added Owen.

“Orthogon Systems offers the most reliable and cost-effective NLoS wireless system on the market today,” said Rajendra Prabhu, IT manager, Al Hawaj “We are very satisfied with the performance provided overall. Moreover, our ERP application performs flawlessly over the Orthogon wireless IP backbone, which is critical to maintaining Al Hawaj Group’s productivity over the long term.”

“Orthogon Systems has been experiencing 20 percent growth quarter over quarter this year in the Middle East. The demand for bandwidth is increasing as fast as enterprises and service providers can add capacity to their networks,” said Graham Owen of Orthogon Systems. “Orthogon’s proven technology is the only platform that enables ISP’s and large enterprises to deploy a solution that delivers excess capacity, cost-savings and ability to quickly rollout new revenue-generating products and services to their customers.”
