Neubau Eyewear: Bio-based materials

A sustainable production process has been used in Neubau's new collection

Neubau’s has launched a collection of 3D printed, bio-based spectacles that have been made using its new material, natural3D.

The Austrian eyewear brand explained the material is created using a sustainable production process and provides the wearer with a skin-friendly frame.

Natural3D is made from oil extracted from castor oil seeds, which creates a powder that is merged by layering using a laser in the 3D printing process with any excess material used for additional models.

Neubau’s first collection includes four frames that are named after well-known activists – Greta (Thunberg), Erin (Brockovich), Bill (Gates) and David (Attenborough).

Temples have been made with an integrated titanium needle, which the eyewear company said allows for the spectacles to be easily adjusted.
