We spoke with health officials in Waukesha County to find out what the current situation with the coronavirus is. Here's what they said:

WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI β€” Waukesha County has the third-highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Wisconsin, with 83 as of Monday, March 30 morning. County officials also reported the first COVID-19-related death in the county Sunday night after a county worker fell ill from the virus.

We corresponded with Benjamin Jones, Waukesha County Health Officer and Public Health Manager about what is happening in Waukesha County with the coronavirus.

Patch: What are the trends in Waukesha County in identifying cases and following up with contacts?

Jones: Over the past four days, we have seen an average of 12 new cases identified per day. The number of contacts associated with each case is very specific to each situation. With more and more testing occurring, we would expect to see that number increase.

Jones: Population density plays a large role in it. With the number of cases being seen in Milwaukee County, we expect a greater chance of exposure in this region. [Waukesha County is the third-most-populous county behind Milwaukee and Dane Counties].

Patch: What is the current situation in Waukesha County?

Jones: Waukesha County Public Health is working diligently to manage this outbreak. Staff is working closely alongside local, state, and federal partners to quickly and effectively respond to cases, contacts, and emerging situations.

Our established relationships have created an environment where the public health system can operate in a unified manner to mount an effective response.

The Waukesha County Emergency Operations Center is activated at level 1, its highest level, in order to enhance this community response to COVID-19.
