Several seafood restaurants are expanding in different parts of Louisville, including St. Matthews, Middletown and Outer Loop.

A wave of new seafood restaurants is coming soon to Louisville.

In comparison to the prominence of pizza, tacos and southern classics, there hasn't been much of a rush of new seafood spots locally. That trend is about to change with several new eateries.

Louisville isn't alone, however. All of the below-mentioned concepts appear to be expanding rapidly. Here's what we know.

Storming Crab

Storming Crab, a Cajun-boiled seafood joint, just opened its first area location in Clarksville, Indiana, in 2018. Now, it's planning to open a second location — this time on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River.

Storming Crab's website confirms it is coming soon to 4801 Outer Loop at the Jefferson Mall. It's unclear if the second location will be a standalone restaurant or a new food court option, but I have reached out for additional details and this story could be updated.

The seafood concept is also planning several other new locations, including restaurants in New York, Missouri, Texas and Illinois. The Clarksville Storming Crab just reopened its dining room in September, having previously operated as carry-out only during the pandemic.

Million's Crab

Million's Crab, a new concept from the creators of the Juicy Seafood and Naked Crab franchises, has two Louisville locations listed as "coming soon" on its website.

One Million's Crab restaurant in development in St. Matthews at 4600 Shelbyville Road, and the other is coming to Middletown, at 12951 Shelbyville Road.

This new-to-market, Cajun-inspired restaurant currently only has one open location in West Chester, Ohio, but has 12 other locations in the works as well. I have reached out in regards to a opening date for the new restaurants and have yet to hear back.

Million's Crab menu is pretty extensive, including: a variety of appetizers, such as raw, grilled and fried oysters; specialties like shrimp pasta and lobster rolls; and of course, seafood in a bag. Guests can choose their seafood, sauce, spiciness level and add-ins including corn, potatoes and sausage.

Captain’s Crab Seafood Boil and Bar

The former Buckheads Mountain Grill and W.W. Cousins restaurant on Outer Loop will become yet another seafood spot.

Captain’s Crab Seafood Boil and Bar is taking over the massive 8,900-square-foot space. I have reached out for a potential opening date and additional details.
