Hickory set to host Mercer County Cross Country Championships

The annual Mercer County Region 1 and 2 Cross Country Championships will take place Saturday.

Hickory will host the event, on the Delahunty Middle School campus.

The 3.1-mile varsity girls’ and boys’ races will start at 9 and 9:45 a.m., respectively.

Also scheduled are elementary boys’ and girls’ races (8:30, 8:45), junior high boys’ and girls’ races (10:30, 11), and a combined Junior Varsity race (11:30 a.m.).

A coaches’ meeting will take place at 8:15 a.m., according to Meet Director, Hickory co-Head Coach Patti Rodenbaugh.

BOYS SOCCER

• Wilmington 9, Sharon 2 – At Greyhounds Stadium in New Wilmington, Willum Sheffler fired in 5 goals and added an assist as Region 1 champion Wilmington (11-2) defeated the Region 2 Tigers.

Joe Saterlee and Caleb Shah added 2 goals each for the Hounds, Colin Hill was credited with 4 assists, and Abram Deep added 1 assist.

Skyler Sloan recorded 2 saves in net for the Greyhounds.

Sharon stats were not reported to The Herald.

• Mercyhurst Prep 6, Hickory 1 – At Hornet Stadium, the Region 3 Lakers defeated Region 2 Hickory (10-7).

Michael Orendi scored for Hickory off an assist from Lukas Jones.

Hickory goalies Matt Maitland made 6 saves in 60 minutes of action while Landon Bean collected 2 saves in 20 minutes.

• Mercer 13, Commodore Perry 0 – At Mercer, 13 different player scored as the Mustangs rolled to the Region 1 win.

Cole Cunningham, Owen Cappelli, Luke Childers, Jonah Dadich, Max Ellis, Joseph Ferrans, TJ Ferrans, Max Glaros, Max Graul, Matthew Knopp, Luke Lasko, JR Schepp, amd Garrett Thumm scored. 

Graul, Joseph Ferrans, and Liam Mount had 2 assists each for the Mustangs.

GIRLS SOCCER

• Karns City 6, Hickory 2 – Lauren Harkless had Hickory’s 2 goals, both courtesy of crossing passes from Anna Rodenbaugh.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

• Sharpsville 3, West Middlesex 0 – At Sharpsville, the Region 3 Lady Blue Devils improved to 11-3 with a 25-21, 25-8, 25-17 sweep of the Region 1 Ms. Reds.

Sharpsville: Ady Kratko 5 digs, 15 points; Cady Benedict 8 kills, 6 blocks;  Chasie Fry 15 points, 8 digs; Lauren Kos 15 assists. West Middlesex: No stats reported.

JV: WM, 25-20, 25-21.

• Reynolds 3, Sharon 0 – At Transfer, Coach Shannon Davis’ Lady Raiders picked up a Region 3 win against the Tigers, 25-16, 25-14, 25-13.

Reynolds: Kelsey McAdoo 5 digs; Kylee McAdoo 7 points; Halyn Cawthorne 7 kills, 16 assists, 9 digs; Annie Loposky 6 digs; Emma Boland 26 points, 9 aces, 15 digs. Sharon: No stats reported.

• Greenville 3, Jamestown 1 – At Greenville, the Region 3 Lady Trojans dropped the first set, but won the next 3 in the win over Region 1 Jamestown, 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-11.

CORRECTION

• Aiden Cadman scored Sharpsville’s final touchdown in the Blue Devils’ recent 46-0 win over Mercer. It was Cadman’s 1st career varsity TD.

It was erroneously reported Colby Johnson scored the final TD.
