FERRON, Emery County — A Las Vegas man died Friday after he fell off a paddleboard and drowned in Millsite Reservoir in Emery County, authorities said.
About 2:15 p.m., the man's wife called emergency responders to report her husband had fallen off his paddleboard about 30 yards from the shore and she could no longer see him, according to a news release from the Emery County Sheriff's Office.
Millsite Reservoir, which is located just west of Ferron in Emery County, is at a very low water level, the sheriff's office said. Because of the low water level, the boat dock at the reservoir is closed, so rescue personnel could not launch a large search and rescue boat.
However, personnel from Utah State Parks, Emery County Sheriff's Office, Emery County Search and Rescue, along with some help from local citizens, searched the reservoir using small boats and kayaks.
The man's body was located about 4:05 p.m. in water that is about 8 feet deep, the sheriff's office said. He was not wearing a life jacket.
The man was 42 and from Las Vegas, the sheriff's office said. His identity was not released Friday.
