59-year-old man dead following rollover crash near Mount Vernon Tuesday

MOUNT VERNON -- A 59-year-old male died in a one-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning east of Mount Vernon, authorities said.

The crash occurred near the intersection of 252nd Street and 399th Avenue, which is about 1 mile east and 1 mile north of Mount Vernon.

Authorities received the call at approximately 5:20 a.m. According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the male was driving a 2018 Nissan Frontier east on 252nd Street, also known as Cemetery Road, when he failed to make a turn near the intersection of 399th Avenue. The vehicle veered off the roadway and vaulted off a driveway, causing the vehicle to roll into the south ditch.

The male was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The male's name has not been released, pending the notification of family members. The crash remains under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. The Davison County Sheriff's Office also responded to the crash.
