HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. (WSET) -- The Halifax County Sheriff's Office says that a missing 84-year-old woman has been found deceased.

The sheriff's office confirmed that Mary Ann Stanley's body was found at a farm near her home on Volens Road.

They said that 84-year old Mary Ann Stanley was last seen at her home on Volens Road on September 24.

Rescue teams began the search for Stanley on Friday night.

Officials report that around 60 people with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, Virginia State Police and the community came together on Saturday to continue the search.

"She was a community person," Andy Hughes, a community member who assisted in the search, said. "She used to run a local store here in the neighborhood for many years. She was very well-liked and a lot of people know her in the community also."

The sheriff said that Stanley may have had the early stages of dementia and Parkinson's disease.

Officials are in the preliminary stages of the investigation.

Stanley's body has been taken to the Roanoke Medical Examiners Office to determine the cause of her death, but officials say that they do not suspect the involvement of foul play.

"I've just known her my whole life, so it's kind of personal," Hughes said.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact the Halifax County Sheriff's Office at (434) 476 3334.
