Sprout’s Pest Control Focusing On Environmentally Safe Methods

  • Friday, July 28, 2017
Sprout’s Pest Control LLC (Sprout’s) was established in late 2015, but just this summer marks founder Ethan Fortner’s big move into focusing on the business full time. Sprout’s provides several pest control treatment options for the Chattanooga and northeast Alabama markets.

Mr.

Fortner got into the pest control business in 2012 while working his way through college. He learned much about both residential and commercial treatments and discovered a very common problem within the industry.

“Pest control had become an industry centered around eliminating pests, but no one seemed concerned about the means by which this was achieved,” he said.  “Pest control is not only about eliminating bugs, but about protecting families, children, pets, and the earth in which we live.”

This was when Sprout’s, named after the nickname of his first-born son, was created. Sprout’s optimizes treatments by offering products derived from natural ingredients such as thyme oil,

He said essential oils affect insects in a very similar way to traditional chemicals, or synthetic pyrethroids.  Essential oils block an insect’s octopamine. Octopamine is a neurotransmitter that is found in insects and crustaceans. The botanical oil products used for pest control act by focusing on and interrupting the octopamine neurotransmitter receptors in insects. This leads to a breakdown in the insect’s central nervous system.

Most essential oils used are safe to use around fish and around bodies of water, which make them an ideal treatment for spiders around boat docks.  Sprout’s also treats vegetation and gardens with natural products. There are no restrictions on the use of these products which allows Sprout’s to treat heavily in hospitals, day-cares, schools, nursing homes, restaurants, and of course around the most sensitive places children and pets.

“Rest assured, Sprout’s is committed to keeping your homes and businesses pest free by providing service empowered with honesty and trust,” said Mr. Fortner.
