Here's what's happening in the Chattanooga area this week.
GOOD TO KNOW
The first day of fall arrives at 9:03 p.m. Thursday in the Northern Hemisphere, though a look around the landscape shows the oaks and the maples haven't got the message yet. If you want a way to track when the leaves will start to change, the 2022 Fall Foliage Map released by smokymountains.com gives the outlook for the entire U.S. The interactive map charts the full progression for each region, county by county. In the Chattanooga area, we'll be waiting until the week of Oct. 31 for the best leaf peeping, somewhat earlier for higher elevations. A disclaimer says the map won't be 100% accurate, but is meant to help travelers "better time their trips to have the best opportunity of catching peak color each year." The site also explains the science of why leaves change color and fall from the trees and has links to recipes, including Moonshine Apple Pie.
