Bicyclist, 79, dies after he was struck by vehicle in San Marcos intersection
Investigators are seeking witnesses to the 9:15 a.m. collision at San Marcos Boulevard and Via Vera Cruz
A 79-year-old bicyclist died he was struck by a car in a San Marcos intersection Tuesday morning, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
About 9:15 a.m., the bicyclist was struck by a Toyota Corolla at San Marcos Boulevard and Via Vera Cruz, Sgt. Charles Morreale said in a news release.
Deputies arrived within two minutes, and found the cyclist had sustained head and leg injuries. He was taken to a hospital with life threatening injuries. He later died, Morreale said. His name has not been released, but he may have been a San Marcos resident.
The 23-year-old Fallbrook man who’d been driving the Toyota was not injured.
Morreale said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have played a role in the incident.
