Remembrance ceremonies hosted across Central Florida honor those lost on 9/11
MIKE: ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE DAY WE WILL NEVER FORGET. MIKE VALERIO, WESH 2 NEWS. SUMMER: HERE IN ORLANDO, FIREFIGHTERS PAID TRIBUTE TO FALLEN HEROES WHO MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE ON 9/11. JUST LIKE THE FDNY FIREFIGHTERS WHO CLIMBED SO MANY STEPS TO RESCUE PEOPLE TRAPPED IN THE TOWERS, OFD FIREFIGHTERS SUITED UP AND CLIMBED AS WELL GOING THE SAME DISTANCE AS THE FIRST RESPONDERS AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. >> IT IS NOT LOST ON US WHAT THIS DAY IS ABOUT. SUMMER: HUNDREDS OF FIREFIGHTERS AND FIRST RESPONDERS WERE KILLED IN THE ATTACKS. THE EVENT ALSO FEATURED A MOTORCYCLE RIDE STARTING AT THE KIM C HAMMOND JUSTICE CENTER IN BUNNELL. SUMMER: REMEMBERING THE LIVES LOST ON 9/11 WITH A CEREMONY AT OCALA-MARION COUNTY VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK. MARION COUNTY FIRE RESCUE SHARED THESE PICTURES FROM THE EVENT WHERE THEY REMEMBERED BOTH THE CIVILIANS WHO WERE ATTACKED AND THE FIRST RESPONDERS WHO RUSHED IN TO SAVE THEM. THE CEREMONY INCLUDED THE RINGING OF THE BELL, A 9/11 TIMELINE, THE LAYING OF A WREATH, AND A FLYOVER BY MCSO AIR 1. JIM: AND THE DELAND FIRE DEPARTMENT HONOR GUARD MARKED THE SIGNIFICANT MOMENTS FROM THIS DAY 21 YEARS AGO. AND IN A SHOW OF UNITY WITH NEIGHBORS, FIRE STATION 81 OPENED ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLIC. FIREFIGHTERS THERE COOKED BREAKFAST, AND INVITED ANYONE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD TO JOIN AND STOP BY, AND REMEMBER THE PEOPLE

Several ceremonies remembering people who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 were held across Central Florida. Orange CountyThe Orlando Fire Department hosted a 9/11 Remembrance and Candlelight Ceremony Sunday night. Candles in different colors represented fallen first responders at the ceremony. "As time goes on, a lot of times memories fade, feelings pass and things are forgotten. It's a vow that we made to friends and family that we know and knew that were working for FDNY on September 11th that we would never forget, and a way to never forget is to continue the memorial," Chief Creed McClelland said.RELATED: Orlando Fire Department to host candlelight ceremony in honor of first responders killed on 9/11Orange County Fire Rescue participated in the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association Patriot Day Breakfast on Friday, where 9/11 victims were honored."As we look back on the more than two decades that have passed, our nation has continued to exemplify incredible resilience. We have certainly experienced tremendous loss and profound sorrow, but we have also rebuilt, remembered and persevered," Fire Chief James Fitzgerald said in a statement.First responders also received awards for their service.The Heroism Award was given to Orange County Station 51 for their quick action in an apartment fire on Apr. 23 where families were trapped on balconies. Sunday morning, Marion County Fire Rescue, in addition to police and fire crews from different agencies, honored first responders and civilians who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

A ceremony was held at the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park.

Local representatives, in addition to members of the Marion County Commission, Ocala Police Department, Ocala Fire Rescue and the Marion County Sheriff's Office attended.

The event featured the ringing of a bell, speakers, placement of a wreath and a flyover conducted by MCSO Air 1.

Volusia County

The Port Orange Police Department Honor Guard and Chief Marino attended a 9/11 memorial held at Halifax Hospice.

A presentation honored first responders who died while trying to rescue people in 9/11 attacks and civilians who were killed.

DeLand Fire Honor Guard was also among the agencies who remembered victims at a memorial.
