Travelers with suitcases wait in line to board a train at Moynihan Train Hall ahead of the Labor Day Weekend on September 2, 2022 in New York City. According to AAA one-third of Americans plan to travel over the holiday weekend. This is the first Labor Day weekend in two years with open borders and relaxed COVID-19 restrictions. Travel for Labor Day weekend is up nationally and the number one destination is Seattle, according to AAA Insurance.

Bookings for car rentals, flights, hotels, and tour groups may be hard to find, according to Kelly Just, a spokesperson for AAA, If you plan to visit Seattle and you can’t find anything, one suggestion is to try online rental companies for lodging and ride shares to get around, but be prepared to pay a premium.

One reason for Seattle’s Labor Day popularity is due to most of the Alaska cruises depart from Seattle.

Just stated vacationers are taking advantage of gas prices being 30 cents lower than they were Memorial Day weekend. More people are driving into the city, spending money there, staying the night, and then boarding their cruise the next day.

Monday will be the worst day to travel home. AAA suggests if you can be flexible, try returning on Tuesday. And if you plan on flying, get the airport two hours before your flight leaves to manage any issues.
