Police, fire department alarmed by 'suspicious' fires in Bullitt County
Authorities in Bullitt County are trying to piece together how three suspicious fires started in three different places overnight.
According to the Zoneton Fire Department, all three fires were reported between midnight and 6 a.m. Monday within a 3-mile stretch of Hunters Hollow.
Investigators said the first fire started around 12:30 a.m. at Doors Etc. Glass & Glazing on North Williams Lane, where a camper and two box trucks burst into flames.
"It’s pretty aggravating," said Kemo Wallace, owner of the business for nearly 30 years. "It’s a shame why someone wants to just destroy other people’s property, things that they have worked for."
Three hours later, several vehicles were damaged in a second fire at an old tire shop on E. Blue Lick Road.
The third and final report of a fire came in just before 4:45 a.m. at a vacant building on Velva Drive.
No one was injured in any of the fires, but Hillview Police and the Zoneton Fire Department are calling the incidents "suspicious."
"For us to have three fires in one night is a very rare occurrence," said Zoneton Fire Department Deputy Chief Tracey Key.
Authorities said they haven't had a suspicious fire in the area in six years.
"If they’re getting an average of two to three actual fires in the area a month and then we get three fires in one night, that certainly does raise some suspicion as to how these started and if they’re linked," Hillview Police Department Detective Scott Barrow said.
Firefighters are currently reviewing surveillance video.
Anyone who knows anything or has cameras in the area is asked to call Hillview Police or the Zoneton Fire Department.
