Slate of local businesses to celebrate Small Business Saturday

A bevy of local businesses in east Jefferson City will be offering special deals and giveaways as part of Small Business Saturday on Nov. 26.

The annual event is coordinated by the Jefferson City East Side Business Association. The first Small Business Saturday was held 13 years ago by American Express, according to an East Side Business Association news release. The day falls on the Saturday following Black Friday and is meant to focus on small businesses instead of big box stores.

This year, at least 13 businesses on Jefferson City's east side will be participating in the event:

• Art Bazaar

• Baristocats Cat Café

• Brimstone Gallery

• Click2Sell4U/Kay's Collectibles

• Cotter Pin Cellar

• JQ's on High.

• O'Donoghue's

• Historic City of Jefferson Reclaim Salvage Shop

• Plate and Pour

• Premium Pets

• Prison Brews

• Renee's Tea and Treasures

• The Pizza Company

This will be the first year that Cotter Pin Cellar and Baristocats Cat Café have participated in the event, as both just recently opened shop in Jefferson City, according to the release.

"Now more than ever it is important to support small businesses by shopping locally," Marla Nilges from Cotter Pin Cellar said in the release. "This ensures their doors can remain open as well as keeping your tax dollars local."

Each participating business will have its own specials and drawings during the event.

• Baristocats Cat Café will be taking photos of customers and their pets with Santa Paws and Mrs. Claws.

• Cotter Pin Cellar will have a 10 percent storewide discount (excluding gift cards and items already on sale).

• Click2Sell4U/Kay's Collectibles will be offering a 25 percent store-wide discount.

• Premium Pets will be doing several giveaways, including goodie bags for the first 10 shippers of the day and a prize wheel.

• Historic City of Jefferson Reclaim Salvage Shop will give away a basket of history books written by local authors.

East Side Business Association will be sponsoring a $100 gift certificate that can be used at any of the participating businesses and Gredell Engineering will be sponsoring two $50 gift certificates that can also be used at any of the previously mentioned businesses, according to the release.
