Golden Goose’s Yatay Model 1B sustainable sneaker forges the path toward a greener—and more responsible—future. The debut release from a new partnership with Coronet—a leader in the research and production of ecologically safe materials—it features a crisp white bio-based upper derived from vegetable sources that sits atop a biodegradable rubber sole. The left heel tab on every pair is emblazoned with a unique numerical key, which wearers can use to access Golden Goose’s Golden Forest initiative to plant a tree, follow its story, and monitor the environmental benefits it brings to the local community.
In this ecoconscious spirit, the Italian company is opening a space in New York’s SoHo neighborhood, the Forward Store, on December 13 with the goal of lengthening the lifespan of existing products—or giving them a new life entirely. Golden Goose's latest offerings will also be available to shop, including sneakers, ready-to-wear, bags, and made-to-order leather jackets.
Leading the way in shoe refurbishment, the Forward Store allows customers to bring sneakers from any brand to its first-of-its-kind workshop, where they'll be cleaned, repaired, restored, or recycled with the help of the store's Dream Makers (tailoring and cobbler professionals).
Additionally, customers will be able to personalize existing pieces—everything from shoes to clothing—with guidance from a Dream Maker. After conceptualizing their one-of-a-kind pieces on the space's interactive digital Dream Wall, clients can select treatments like distressing, embroidery, handwritten messages, and hand painted drawings to make the items their own. For sneakers, customers can also opt to have them tie-dyed or add airbrushed designs.
Leaning in to customization, the store offers two programs where clients can design pieces from scratch: the Made to Measure Service, which specializes in suits; and the Bespoke program for sneakers.
Taking things full circle, the Forward Store also operates as a physical reselling platform for select Golden Goose pieces, namely sneakers and leather jackets.
