Flexible working webinar to kick off 2023 gender equality programme

Generic apprentices diversity apprentice women woman skills

Construction professionals are invited to join a free webinar in March on how moving to flexible working will help the sector tackle skills shortages – the first event in the 2023 programme for Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering.

Following on from the success of last year's programme, Construction News and its sister title New Civil Engineer are again joining forces for the webinar, an expanded awards programme and an autumn conference.

New Civil Engineer editor Claire Smith will chair the webinar with a line-up of expert guest speakers on flexible working and will also share more details of the 2023 Inspiring Women programme.

“The pandemic helped fast-track changes in working patterns in the construction and civil engineering industries, which has brought both benefits and challenge,” said Smith.

“During the webinar discussion we are going to explore how the changes could unlock more potential in the sector by addressing gender balance, diversity and inclusion. The aim is to share best practice to ensure firms moving to new working arrangements get the maximum benefits for both their business and their staff.”

Speakers for the hour-long event, which will take place online at 11am on 8 March, will be announced soon. The topics that will be discussed include:

  • The business case for flexible-working practices and how can they support you to attract, retain and nurture talent as well as encourage workforce diversity in your organisation.
  • What impact are more flexible-working practices and changing cultures having for your business and workforce?
  • What do good flexible-working practices look like?
  • How will flexible-working practices improve diversity and inclusion in construction and engineering?
