The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released more information about a wreck that claimed the life of a 3-year-old girl Tuesday.
A crash report states seven people were inside a 2000 Ford Explorer when the SUV traveled off the left side of Missouri 7 Highway. Crash investigators said the driver overcorrected, causing the SUV to skid, overturn, and come to rest in the median of the highway.
The 3-year-old girl was not buckled in at the time of the crash. She was thrown from the SUV and pronounced dead on the scene.
The crash report states two other juveniles, both 10-year-old boys, were also in the vehicle. Only one of them was buckled in.
Four adults ranging in age from 23 to 65 were also in the vehicle; none of them were wearing seatbelts.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all seven occupants of the SUV were from Brinkley, Arkansas.
The crash happened Tuesday afternoon, just before 4 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Missouri 7 Highway just east of Freedom Road in Cass County.
All six surviving occupants of the SUV were taken to an area hospital for treatment after the crash.
This crash remains under investigation.
