The Lawson Health Research Institute of London, Ontario will host a homelessness forum in Goose Bay tomorrow to outline some of the findings and data collected in the region last year as part of a national homelessness research project they’ve undertaken.
Researcher and psychiatric mental health nurse Dr. Cheryl Forchuk has been working with several federal government agencies to gain a more accurate picture about homelessness across the country, particularly in rural areas.
She says among the problems in accurately assessing the information is that most of the data is recorded when a person comes into contact with the health care system. Another problem is a bias towards larger urban centres in terms of the collection of data.
The Goose Bay forum is being held from 9:00 to 3:00 tomorrow at the Hotel North Two on Hamilton River Road with another forum set for next Monday in St. John’s.
