NORTHBROOK, IL — Following Memorial Day, preparations are now moving forward for the annual 4th of July parade in Northbrook. Applications are being accepted through June 15 for those looking to participate in the decades-old tradition.

Last year, the festivities were cut short following a mass shooting in nearby Highland Park. Organizers say this year's event will include community and non-profit groups like sports clubs, youth groups, charities or volunteer service organizations.

According to organizers, this year's parade route will be slightly reduced to a 0.7 mile route that will begin just west of Westmoor Elementary School, 2500 Cherry Lane, and end at Village Hall, 1225 Cedar Lane

Organizers said participating in the Northbrook 4th of July parade "allows you to share your brand message with thousands of people along the parade route." Bands and specialty groups may also apply to participate and request a performance fee using a separate application form.
