Body found on Oregon Coast is believed to be that of the missing Beaverton student

UPDATE: The Clatsop County medical examiner confirmed that the body found along the Oregon coast early Sunday morning was a missing 18-year-old from Beaverton.

"The identification on the body found in Cannon Beach has been determined to be Jacob Stokes," Elizabeth DeVisser, Chief Medicolegal Death Investigator for the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, said on Monday.

Stokes was reported missing on May 12 when he and three other Mountainside High School students were hit by a wave while wading in the ocean near Cannon Beach.

In a statement on the Cannon Beach Police Department Facebook page, the department said “Early this morning, a body was discovered in the tideline in Tolovana. Based on the circumstances we believe it to be that of the missing swimmer from May 12th. Please continue to keep the family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”

KATU News has reached out to Cannon Beach Police for further information.

Stokes was one of four Mountainside High School students who were swept out to sea when they were hit by a wave and pulled out in a rip tide.

Two students were able to get out of the water on their own. One had to be rescued by a rescue swimmer.

Stokes had not been seen and an extensive rescue operation was launched to find him.
