WALTHAM, MA — Waltham is set to go all in on Pride month this year, with a festival planned for the weekend days after city officials passed a resolution to promote "pride [and] visibility in Waltham."

As part of this commitment, Waltham will display a Pride flag during the month of June. Councilors also reaffirmed a commitment to fighting against prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community.

"The Waltham City Council stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community for the month of June affirming that hate — be it transphobic or homophobic — has no place in Waltham's community or schools," the council wrote.

Waltham Pride is scheduled for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. music, drag, circus acts, children’s activities and more will be featured during the event at Waltham Common.

Pride month begins in earnest across the country starting on Thursday, and Massachusetts will play a big part by hosting events and ceremonies in one of the country's biggest cities, and in one of its most important in LGBTQ+ life.

In Boston, Pride For The People are set to host a now annual festival and parade on June 10, which comes one week after Provincetown kicks off the opening weekend of pride in one of America's most important havens for the LGBTQ+ community.
