Rather than a special election, city council members will determine future of Independence's pit bull ban
There will be no election to repeal the City of Independence's pit bull ban. Instead, the city council is expected to make that decision next month. The council voted Monday night not to put the future of the city's pit bull ban on the ballot. City leaders will discuss the policy and possibly vote on the matter at the June 5th meeting. The move comes after volunteers gathered nearly 5,700 signatures on petitions to lift the ban. The petitions were presented to councilmembers. Putting the issue on the ballot would have cost an estimated $120,000.
