CAV TO BE PERFECT

Cavani is so meticulous he demands his meals be prepared a certain way and isn’t afraid to blast Man Utd team-mates

EDINSON CAVANI'S meticulous approach to the way his meals are prepared is helping the striker remain at his lethal best.

And it is demand for perfection - from himself and others - that has seen the Uruguayan blast his Manchester United team-mates.

Luke Shaw was the victim on Sunday as Cavani berated the left-back for failing to find him with a pass during the 3-2 comeback FA Cup win over Liverpool.

The summer signing does not speak much English - Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Bruno Fernandes are helping with translating, The Telegraph reports.

But that does not stop the veteran forward, who turns 34 next month, dishing his points out, whether that be regarding passes or pasta.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: "He has learnt the most important words.

"If there is something he wants to get across, he is never shy to relay his message and the players help."

Commenting on Cavani's precise demands over his pre-match meal prior to the Wolves clash last month, the United boss added: "He knows what works for him. Those habits I really like."

Questions and eyebrows were raised when the forward arrived as a free agent in October following his release from Paris Saint-Germain.

But while his five goals in 18 United appearances including four in 12 in the Premier League is not a bad return, it is his work rate and experience that Solskjaer also values highly.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's Sheffield United clash, he added: “What does he bring? How long have we got?

"What he brings is when a striker of that age runs almost 12km [per game]... he chases down every time the centre-back has got the ball, every time the goalkeeper has the ball, tackles on centre-midfielders.

“He made a mistake for the second Liverpool goal but he’s the one that’s closest to winning it back inside our own 18-yard box.

“His reaction, his work rate and his habits and his threat in the box and the humility of coming in every single day to do your best.

“We could go on and on and on but his experience and attitude of course. It’s given us a lesson, every single one of us."

Mason's learning good habits and whoever doesn't learn from players like Cavani or Bruno Fernandes, that's a pity.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Mason Greenwood

And just as Marcus Rashford developed under Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his two seasons with the club between 2016 and 2018, Solskajer hopes Mason Greenwood will be able to do the same with Cavani.

The Norwegian said: "We think Mason is going be very important in second half of the season but it's not just going happen by itself.

“He's taken steps, he's grown, he's more mature and he's been training with Edinson Cavani for half a season.

“He’s learning good habits, and whoever doesn't learn from players like him, or Bruno Fernandes or the players we’ve brought in, that's a pity.

“I'm very confident that Mason will chip in good performances and with goals and assists.”
