Have you noticed the earthquakes happening in south Reno lately? Well, the Nevada Seismological Laboratory has named it the south Reno earthquake swarm.

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory says south Reno has had 280 earthquakes since mid-January — the last one being on March 17.

The earthquakes are happening under the mountains, east of Virginia Foothills, which experts say isn't unusual for that area.

The reason for the earthquakes is how our tectonics are moving here in northern Nevada, according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory.

Experts say we should always be ready and prepared for a bigger earthquake as we live in the third most seismologically active state in the United States.

Northern Nevada has faults like the Mt. Rose fault which has the potential to produce a magnitude seven earthquake.

Further research will be done by the Nevada Seismology Lab on the swarm in Spanish Springs that happened a few months ago and the one happening right now in south Reno.

More research will give them a better image of each fault.

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory asks everyone to look around their house for loose items, secure them if needed, and have an evacuation plan ready.
